Felony Crime Cases

A felony conviction could have a serious impact upon your life. You could loose your freedom over a specified period of time of incarceration in prison, loose some of your basic civil rights such as your right to vote, your ability to serve on a jury, and your right to own, use, or possess a firearm. A felony conviction can also directly impact your ability to work in specific areas of employment or your ability to hold certain employment certifications such as, such as medical fields, nursing, teaching, real estate, or financial services, just to name a few.

If you are already licensed in a particular profession, depending on the specific felony crime an individual is convicted of, it may result in a review of your "character and fitness", thus jeopardizing your ability to continue to work in that field.

Depending on the specific felony crime that an individual is tried for, a conviction may result in:

  • Significant fines;

  • A specified period of incarceration jail or prison;

  • Lengthy periods probation;

  • House arrest;

  • Suspension or revocation of your driving privileges;

  • Potential vehicle forfeiture;

  • Community service;

  • Potential forfeiture of property or assets;

  • Forfeiture of certain basic civil rights;

  • And other mandatory programs or classes ordered by the court that are to be paid for out of the guilty parties own pocket.

In the State of Florida there are three degrees of felony crimes (in addition to life felonies and capital felony crimes):

  • Third Degree Felony: punishable by up to a $5,000 fine, five (5) years prison and/or probation;

  • Second Degree Felony: punishable by up to a $10,000 fine, fifteen (15) years prison and/or probation;

  • First Degree Felony: punishable by up to $15,000 fine, thirty (30) years prison and/or probation.
